How much does local SEO cost? Real numbers, no hedging

Everyone answers this with 'it depends.' It does depend — but there are real ranges, and you should know them before you take a sales call. Here they are, with what each tier should actually buy you.

The honest ranges

Local SEO for a single-location business in a market like Palm Beach County generally runs $750 to $2,500 a month. Below that you're usually buying automation. Above it you're usually buying scale — more locations, more services, or a market where every competitor already has an agency.

One-time projects exist too: a profile and citation cleanup with a batch of service pages typically runs $1,500 to $5,000 as a one-off. That's a real option if you'd rather fix the foundation and handle reviews yourself.

What each price tier buys

Under $500/mo

Usually automated

At this price nobody is doing manual work. Expect bulk citation submissions, an AI-written blog post, and a dashboard that reports activity instead of rankings. Occasionally fine for a single-location business in a market with no competition — rarely otherwise.

$750 – $1,500/mo

Real work, one location

Active Google Business Profile management, citation cleanup, a review engine, a handful of service and area pages, monthly reporting on actual map pack positions. This is where most single-location local businesses in Palm Beach County land.

$1,500 – $3,500/mo

Competitive markets

Everything above, plus ongoing content, technical work, and genuine local link building. Appropriate when you're fighting other businesses who are also doing SEO properly — attorneys, dentists, roofers, med spas.

$3,500+/mo

Multi-location or multi-service

Several profiles, several service areas, or a large site. Cost scales with the number of locations and the number of services you need to rank each one for.

Why cheap local SEO costs more

The $299/month packages aren't a smaller version of the same service. They're a different service: software submitting your business to directories, plus generated content nobody reads. The damage isn't just wasted money. Bulk submissions with slightly wrong data create the exact NAP inconsistency problem that suppresses rankings, and cleaning that up later costs more than doing it right the first time.

The other cost is time. Twelve months at $299 is a year your competitor spent accumulating reviews and links you now have to catch up to. In a market where the top three listings take most of the clicks, that gap is the expensive part.

Work out what it's worth to you

Skip industry benchmarks and do your own math. Take your average job value, multiply by your close rate on inbound calls, and you have the value of one lead. Then ask how many extra calls a month would make the retainer obviously worth it. For a roofer at $12,000 a job, one additional signed job a quarter pays for a year of serious SEO. For a $60 service ticket, the number of leads required is very different — and the answer might be that local SEO is a long-term brand play rather than a direct ROI line.

That calculation is also how you should judge a proposal. If an agency can't connect their deliverables to leads and can only report on "activities completed," you're buying activity, not outcomes.

Questions to ask before you sign

Who does the work, and are they in the country? Is there a contract, and what's the exit? Do I own the website, content, and Google Business Profile if we part ways? What exactly gets done in month one versus month six? What does reporting look like, and does it show map pack positions or just traffic?

Our answer to the contract question is that we work month to month out of 255 Evernia St in downtown West Palm Beach, and we quote after a free audit — because quoting before we've looked at your profile, your citations, and your competitors would just be a guess dressed up as a price.

Before you pay anyone

Read how to improve local SEO first. A meaningful chunk of the early work — profile completion, review asks, NAP consistency — is genuinely doable in-house, and knowing that changes what you should be paying for. Our SEO services in West Palm Beach page lays out what we cover when you'd rather hand it off.
